The Phantom Tollbooth

The Phantom Tollbooth is a 256-page novel written by Norton Juster. Milo, the main character, is a boy who always wants to do the opposite of what he is currently doing. One day, Milo receives a package containing a magical Phantom Tollbooth. Milo pays the toll and drives off in his miniature car to many fantastical and zany places. The settings of this book are very important to the story.
This novel's settings are a major part of the book's storyline. If Milo hadn't started off on Earth in this "realm", he wouldn't have to get accustomed to the people and creatures' strange habits and traditions in the lands beyond. This means that he would be bored in the lands beyond and come to Earth, making the story completely different. If Milo had started his journey in Digitopolis instead of Dictionopolis, his first impressions and encounters might have made his journey different. If Milo hadn't accidentally gone to the Doldrums, he wouldn't have befriended Tock, the watchdog, and he would have gone on his adventure alone. Sort of like Milo's having to acclimate to the strange people in the lands beyond, I have had to get used to the different foods, people, and customs when I travel to new places.
